Exhale – Sin Clair

Exhale – Sin Clair

A door opens, a chair creaks, someone walks across a wooden floor in a second-floor apartment. A heartbroken woman mumbles out about heartbreak. Sounds of piano hammers shift uneasily in a damp-room.

The song is, Exhale, one-half of Sin Clair’s debut double release: ‘Affirmations #2 / Exhale’. The pairing is an odd mix. One half esoteric club beats, the second, lullaby-like piano and haunted vocals.

It is Exhale which I love the most. Perhaps unsurprisingly. The lyrics are care-worn but rooted in a tenderness that feels lived in.

Among such tender years together, something got lost along the way
I guess I never told you all the things I meant to say
I couldn’t give it to you
Begged too late to be my boy

Sin Clair is the solo vehicle for Amelia Kidd, erstwhile bass player for The Ninth Wave and currently a touring member and co-writer with The Horrors. This track was selected as BBC 6Music Introducing’s Track of the Week earlier this month. It’s not hard to see why. A debut album is in the works. Count me in as ‘excited’.
