Bird In The Belly are an Brighton-based folk collective. Although you might have guessed that just from the band name. Their debut album The Crowing was released in March 2018. The album consisted of songs the band had found in archives and libraries, set to contemporary folk music by the band.
I heard the single, I Once Built A Boy, on Stuart Maconie’s 6Music show ‘Freak Zone’. I can’t find a link to the track on the band’s Bandcamp. But it is track three in this 6Music show.
A wonderfully weird, eclectic mix of discordant strings and chanted, male/female lyrics. Such that can only have been made in Sussex.
