Sarah Waiting In The Car – Elanor Moss

Elanor Moss tickles my nostalgia nerve and melancholy tendencies. It’s perhaps not surprising to learn Moss wrote this and the rest of her latest album The Knife, The Needle in a cabin in the Scottish Highlands. The song is tender but twists on a dark edge. There’s an eeriness to hearing domestic violence discussed in a hushed whisper. She introduces the song with a heavy sigh that sounds like resignation and sings “you’re so gentle baby” the same way she later sings “you’re so violent baby,” with only a slight hesitation to differentiate the two.
