Walking home from Tooting Broadway station at 9.22pm on a Wednesday night. I saw Saoirse Ronan’s new film, Bad Apples in Soho (fantastic, dark-satire), listening to Emily Pilbeam’s BBC6 Music Introducing show, and this track by Theo and Sahra comes on. At first, I think the jazz intro is a bed beneath the interlude between two tracks. But it carries on, I’m willing it not to be an interstitial, to be a real song, eventually it blooms into a gorgeous, expansive, improvised instrumental before it settles into a folk-lullaby.
Created during the final months before the birth of their first child, debut track “For You” is both a document of transition and a quiet act of devotion both to each other, to the lives they’ve lived, and to the one about to begin. I’m looking forward to the full EP being released in November.
