I’ve always struggled with the phrase “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” because, particularly when it comes to today’s band, Twisted Teens, they do still, patently, still make ‘em like they used to.
‘When We First Met‘ is a barrelling, scuzzy, gem of a song. Part Americana-punk rock, part bluegrass, part old-school garage rock. The song threatens to fall apart multiple times throughout its whip-tight 1 minute 52 second run time. The fact it doesn’t owes much to the musicianship and songwriting of Caspian Hollywell and RJ Santos.
Their third album, Holy Cross Tigers, is their debut on Sub Pop. Which is why this song in particular is getting more airtime. Another reason to doubt the myth that no good music is being made in 2026.
