Westside Cowboy are a Manchester-based band who sound like they are from Tennessee. They won Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2025. Already, they are being spoken of as “the next big thing” in UK indie. A title that is sure to mean the backlash has already started. This is a sound that will appeal to the BBC 6 Music Dads. I am not immune to this. They could have supported Kings of Leon 15 years ago.
‘Kick Stones (The Boys)’ is the lead track off their new album It Goes On. Channelling early Modern Lovers and The Feelies, the song barrels along on a wave of youthful energy and naivety. It’s impossible not to love a song like this, even though the critical sniping about it being rehashed garage rock is sure to follow soon enough. Let’s just enjoy it while we can.
