Deceptacon – Sprints

I remember hearing this track for the first time at Club Sandwich in New Cross in 2006. We had no Shazam in those days. The only way to find out a track you heard in a club was to try and remember a snippet of the lyrics, something to Google later. I remember writing “who took the bomb a lomb a lomb” in a text message on my Nokia phone and saving it as a draft. Then, in the library, the next day, I Google-d those lyrics and found the Le Tigre song.

I remember the song being popular on Hype Machine all throughout that autumn. I downloaded the track from Gorilla vs Bear and played it over and over again on my iPod Nano. It might even have been my MySpace song for a while. All of these references place this track at a very specific point in my life. So to hear this re-imagined as a straight up punk song is strangely refreshing. The Dublin band make this a down the line headbanger, rather than an indie-disco floorfiller. And it doesn’t lose a shade of it’s original soul.
